～欲しい (~hoshii) 		JLPT GRAMMAR

Meaning：want (~चाहिए )

It is used to express the speaker’s desire to posses or have an object. It can also be used to ask what the listener wants. The object is marked with the particle が。ほしい is an　いーadjective.

Note:

1. ～欲しいです cannot be used to describe the third person’s desire.

2. When you offer something or invite someone to do something, you can not use ～欲しいです. e.g. you should not use コーヒーが欲しいですか instead you should use コーヒーはいかがですか　Or　コーヒーを飲みませんか。

Formation: Nが欲しいです。

Example Sentences:

  • 私は友達が欲しいです。
  • Watashi wa tomodachi ga hoshīdesu.
  • I want a friend.
  • मुझे दोस्त चाहिए।
  • 「今何がいちばん欲しいですか。」「…車がほしいです。」
  • `Imanani ga ichiban hoshīdesu ka.’`…-Sha ga hoshīdesu.’
  • “What do you want the most now?” “…I want a car most.”
  • “अभी तुम्हे सबसे ज्यादा क्या चाहये?” “मुझे कार चाहिए।”
  • 「子どもが欲しいですか。」「…いいえ欲しくないです。」
  • `Kodomo ga hoshīdesu ka.’`… Īe hoshikunaidesu.’
  • “Do you want a child?” ” …No. I don’t.”
  • “क्या आप बच्चा चाहते हैं?” “… नहीं, मैं नहीं चाहता।”
